BioOrganics is located in Bangalore, the capital of the State of Karnataka in southern India. The city, fifth largest in India, has a population of over 6 million people. United Nations Human Development Report, 2001, ranks Bangalore a joint fourth, with San Francisco, Austin and Taiwan, as a global technology hub promoting technological innovation. Bangalore is also the Science Capital of India. It is home to the Indian Institute of Science, National Center of Biological Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research and other research institutes. IISc is credited with India's pioneering contribution to Structural Biology starting with the work of Prof. G. N. Ramachandran in 1971.

The Government of Karnataka is building on these strong foundations to make Bangalore the Biotech City of India. It has constituted a Biotechnology Vision Group to spearhead initiatives in this area. To further efforts in this area the government is also promoting the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology at Bangalore.
